Several of you have asked after Sosta. We appreciate it! I just wanted to give a quick update.

She seems to feel just fine. Her only behavior change is that she is now my own personal play-by-play when I’m at home. I can’t leave any room of our 2/2 apartment without her following me. Wednesday, I took ~10 steps to move something from one room to another and when I turned around, she was there. I try to tell her to stay put and that I’ll be right back….but she follows me, anyway.

The lump on her belly seems to be stunted in growth in some way (knock on wood). It seems quite a bit smaller than it was when she came home from having the stitches removed.

We are spoiling her like crazy and she’s taking full advantage. She’ll beg for wet food and climb all over us until she can find the blue “woobie” afghan that I crocheted a couple of years ago. (It’s usually resting across the back of the couch.)

Anyway, she’s doing quite well given her prognosis. I’m glad to have the extra time with her. I hope the last few weeks of my life are as decadent.

I have, for a number of years, wanted to Trick-or-Treat in the snow.

Let me be clear. I don’t just want snow on the ground, I actually want flakes of snow falling on my shoulders and landing on my eyelashes. Clearly, I don’t expect much. ha ha ha Oh wait! It’s a fan-ta-sy! I can expect whatever I want.

I’ve been told by some of my Yankee friends (who also happen to be knitters) that there are towns in Michigan that get lake-effect snow by that time of year and are more likely to have falling snow on Hallowe’en.

Last year, I told someone I wanted to do this and was met with, “that sounds like hell” and descriptions of runny noses and grumpy kiddos. I had to explain that this was MY fantasy and not one I expected for children. Like I care if the kids are having a good time. Furthermore, like I expect cold-sensitive Texas kids to have fun at this.

This year, Hallowe’en is on a Saturday. I had high hopes that we’d be able to visit a northern state for the weekend. But, with the move, living in two places, selling of the house, buying of the car, etc, etc, etc, we just don’t have the extra money saved up for plane tickets “all” the way across the country for a weekend getaway.

So, I’m considering Friday, October 31, 2014 or Saturday, October 31, 2015. Anyone want to go with me?

Founders’ Day message (excerpt) from Zeta Tau Alpha President

Happy Founders’ Day 2009!

From the start, our Founders envisioned a Zeta Tau Alpha that would grow….our Fraternity has always proven up to even the largest of challenges. We have always had, as The History records, “the courage to venture forth, create, or build so that others might benefit from (our) work.”….Given under my hand and seal, I proclaim the fifteenth day of October, in the year of our Lord, two thousand and nine, as our 111th Founders’ Day.
