In Memory of Harold

Sunday, 2008-November-23 by

One of my dad’s best friends, Harold Morrison, passed away this week. He and Daddy were golf buddies and shared a real love of their school and its kids. Since it’s founding, Harold had chaired the golf tournament that was named in Daddy’s memory.

The write up in the local paper was really nice. They were quite kind to mention Daddy a couple of times.

Our thoughts are with Harold’s family and close friends.

.

.

.

In typical Paris News fashion, they used the name Salters instead of Salter. Since they ran stories of Daddy’s death, his obituary, and advertisements for the golf tournament every year, any effort to verify would have revealed the correct spelling of the name. Daddy would have said, “there is just one of me!”

Paw Prints

Friday, 2008-November-7 by

So we decided to paint the boardwalks to the house this evening. (We aren’t usually fans of painted wood, but it had been painted before.) We started at front door, painted up the stairs and up to the driveway. Then we started at the garage door and painted down the stairs toward the kitchen. This way, we could paint our way into the house and it could dry overnight.

Emil took the second “shift”. As he neared the kitchen door, we opened the screen door. Purrrrrl decided that was an invitation to walk outside, buzzed right past him, and manged to get paint on all four paws!

I got a paper towel and got most of the paint off her paws. As I type this, I’m holding her (which is making it take twice as long to tell this little story) to keep any paint remnants from getting all over our beautiful hardwood floors.

(Can you hear her cry and fuss at me for not letting her down? Can you see the fur flying from her getting her dander up at me? Can you feel the flick of her tail as she smacks it in anger?)

Oh, Sosta just came to check on her baby sister….and Purrrrrl’s paws seem to be dry, now.

This is one of the cutest uses of technology I’ve seen in a while. This is a great way to share a litter’s first few days/weeks with friends and family.

Indi is Missing

Thursday, 2008-October-23 by

About a year ago, we had to find a new home for Indigo. We just couldn’t provide what he needed. He went to live with Matthew on dozens of acres and has been such a good dog for Matthew and his family. They hunt together and Indi goes with Matthew when he goes horseback riding on their land.

Matthew’s mom called yesterday to say that Indi is missing. She wanted to let me know in case the Avid chip in his neck prompted someone to call us.

Here are some of our old photos of Indigo.

For those in the southeast area of College Station, please keep an eye out for him. Call or email (or comment on here) if you see him.

Schadenfreude

Wednesday, 2008-October-22 by

Today, one of my Twitter friends understood the concept of Schadenfreude but didn’t know the word for it. For those of you who also want to learn, here are some helpful links.

(WARNING: this song is R-rated and may not be safe for work.)

the song, Schadenfreude, from the Broadway show, Avenue Q

the Wikipedia definition

another great version of the song with some funny choreagraphy

the lyrics

Thank you to our friend Angela for introducing me to Avenue Q. Years later, songs like this one, “What do you do with a BA in English?”, “If you were gay…”, and “The Internet is for Porn” have become staples on my iPod.
