Day 3 of 30

Thursday, 2007-October-18 by

Of, course, something I should mention along the way is that there aren’t really going to be 30 days…I don’t know how many business days fall into the 30-day window. Also, I might do this on the weekends, we’ll see.

  • Getting Things Done
  • Walk with Jes and the dogs
  • Pick up a few things in our bedroom
  • Work on Jae’s bridal portrait
  • Work on Craig & MacKenzie’s third wedding album
  • Have lunch with my Darling
  • Plan commune
  • Sync my Treo to my Google Calendars
  • Update resume, “generic-ize” cover letter so it can go to ~anyone, apply for a couple of jobs
  • Getting Things Done (I can see the top of Daddy’s desk!)
  • Commune
  • Getting Things Done (I found the end of couple of piles!)
  • De-decorate Halo from Homecoming and unload the stuff into our garage
  • and a little more Getting Things Done….

whew! what a day.

Emil is at his softball game. They had the 10:15 time slot tonight, so I didn’t go. I have to take my insomnia medicine at ~9pm and certainly can’t drive after taking it. I hate missing two weeks in a row; I should be able to go next week, though.

Day 2 of 30

Thursday, 2007-October-18 by

today’s tasks include:

  • an appointment (8am! yikes, won’t do that again. Too early.)
  • exercise with Jes and the dogs
  • “Getting Things Done”
  • lunch with my darilingest husband
  • plan commune
  • meet with Dex at Jack FM about an upcoming personal appearance
  • shop for commune
  • clean the living room
  • start editing a bridal portrait
  • remove the wasp that Indi killed from our home
  • spray the wasps’ nest and run like hell
  • meet with a potential client
  • cook for commune
  • commune

It’s good that I’m journaling this. It felt like I didn’t do much, but seeing the list, I realize that I did.

Day 1 of 30

Tuesday, 2007-October-16 by

So, today, I have done all of these things:

  • Getting Things Done” for an hour. My daily chore that is an attempt to clear my inbox and my desk. It means I’m adding to my todo list, but it also means I have a chance at finding all those receipts and doing all those forgotten tasks.
  • Exercised with Jessica, Indigo, Buddy, and Samantha. We had a great run in the woods this morning.
  • more “GTD”
  • lunch with my sweetie (a healthy chef salad, for me)
  • finally designed an album for a client who had been waiting for months
  • picked up the living room (between Homecoming and the Bridal Show, it was a mess); tomorrow, I’ll clean it
  • planned dinner for Emil and me

…and that leaves the rest of my evening free to attend the Bridal Association of the Brazos Valley Board Meeting. Of course, I’ll spend half the meeting going to the restroom since I’ve had nothing but water almost all day.

I’ve decided to attempt to journal my progress in the hopes of motivating me to stay on top of things.

I feel motivated and energized.

a caffeine-free life

Tuesday, 2007-October-16 by

One year, in college, I gave up caffeine for Lent. I was drinking too much. The first day was helacious. The next wasn’t too bad. The rest was easy. Of course, everything’s easier when you are in college. Not only is age on your side, but you are too busy to remember why your head hurts.

Sunday was kind of like that first day of Lent for me, but the easy way. I have a new sleeping medicine from my doctor. The first time I took it, I slept for eleven (11) hours! After Fall Homecoming on Saturday, Emil and I came dragging in at 2:30 or 3am (damn, it was a good party!). I took my new medicine knowing I could sleep all day Sunday, if necessary. Well guess what? I awoke just long enough to eat lunch and dinner and was still in bed by 10pm!

Since I wasn’t awake, I wasn’t drinking caffeine. So, I took advantage. Monday was a limited caffeine day. I had a smaller-than-usual coke in the morning and another at lunch. For dinner and the rest of the evening, I had water. gasp! the horror! Well, you know, it IS close to Halloween. Today, I’ve not had any. The closest I came was a caffeine-free diet coke with lunch.

So, we’ll see how long it lasts (when I had to give it up for my root canal, it didn’t last long at all!), but I have hopes. I don’t really care to cut it ALL out. I just want to get it down to a more manageable level so the insomnia meds can work like they are supposed to.

an amazing day

Thursday, 2007-October-4 by

I’ve been in a slump. That’s no surprise to anyone around me. It’s just been this endless cycle of needs and tasks and stuff that I can’t get done and it’s depressing.

This week, the stress has kicked my in the behind. I’ve had a giant stress-induced allergy attack that lasted for a week and took a lot of drugs. It seems (knock on wood) to finally be under control. This week, it was insomnia that reared it’s ugly head. None of this is good for my physical or emotional well-being.

So, at 4:30am on Wednesday, I emailed work and said I couldn’t be there. At 11am, I woke up feeling pretty refreshed. That hadn’t happened in a while, so I was a little freaked out. The rest of my day was fabulous:

  • took a friend to work ’cause her car is ill
  • ran several overdue errands in a short amount of time, recruited at least 1 friend to AggieBarCrawl(.com) and another person to Fall Homecoming
  • made dinner for some friends who did me a huge favor
  • met with (and adore!) a potential wedding coordinator, have someone new to call on for help when I get overwhelmed and need an extra set of hands
  • served dinner to my friends
  • went to a “Calendar Girls”-inspired photo shoot. Our friends/models were amazing! Our photographer/friend was top notch. After such a fabulous creative experience, I came home on a complete high….batteries recharge and ready to face parts of my world again.

Thank you, all for sticking by me while I get through this slump. I feel like I can tackle a few things, now! Maybe I’ll find the light at the end of the tunnel.
